Radiohead's The King Of Limbs appeared some 3 1/2 years after the well-regarded In Rainbows. Despite this significant time between albums, KoL was the shortest such offering Radiohead ever released, in both amount of tracks (8) and total time (37 minutes). With spotty song quality as well, it is undoubtedly one of their least satisfying works. Unlike with Kid A though, the problem wasn't poor song selection but that they hadn't recorded enough good ones yet. Surprisingly enough, Radiohead did this during the remaining months of 2011 and released four more tracks separately.
If Radiohead were under a label's time schedule, this rushing would be understandable, but the band self-releases their material at first now and can do so whenever they desire. King Of Limbs needed to be delayed until a few more songs were recorded, but thankfully we can rectify this problem in hindsight. Of the four released songs, only The Daily Mail does not fit among the other 11 tracks (The Butcher, despite what they stated, most certainly does). These three were easily added to the album (with Supercollider edited down from its unsightly 7+ minutes), while the inferior Little By Little and (especially) Give Up The Ghost were removed.
Radiohead can find success with anything at this point, but The King Of Limbs was not nearly what it could have been. If you found yourself unsatisfied with the album, try giving this new take a listen. It accomplishes what Radiohead were trying to do and is much more enjoyable.
